Micro skin needling is a non-surgical cosmetic solution that stimulates collagen production, softens the appearance of scars and improves the texture of your skin. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, skin needling works from the inside out, helping to break down old scar tissue and stimulate skin cell production to regenerate and refresh the appearance of your skin.
The Dermapen system uses sterile motorised micro-needles to penetrate the skin and stimulate the repair mechanism at a cellular level. Safe for almost all skin types and colours, we recommend skin needling as a less invasive and faster healing alternative to Fraxel laser therapies.
The Dermapen creates micro-injuries in the skin, which trigger keratinocytes and fibroblasts to induce collagen production and new tissue formation. As a result, the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis is improved – which gives the effect of a more balanced even-skin texture and reduction in wrinkles. Skin needling also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation and is successful in reducing the visibility of disfiguring scars and acne scars.

Skin needling involves multiple needles penetrating the skin creating multiple channels. These channels can carry more than 80% more topical nutrients, and can encourage the delivery of these nutrients deeper into the skin. The channels feed cells in the dermis and basal layer of the epidermis.
These micro-punches to the skin also create a natural repair response from the body which results in an increased production of collagen.
Skin will have a sunburn look and feel with moderate erythema, heat sensitivity and a grazed appearance.
Typically you will see results after the first treatment, more significant results will become visible after four to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Your skin will continue to improve over the next six to 12 months after the course of treatments.
Generally no, but you may experience some redness for 12 to 48 hours after the treatment. Normal activities may commence usually immediately after the treatment.
