Dermal Fillers

At Ocean Cosmetics, we are passionate about enhancing your natural beauty to boost your self-confidence and refine your look.

As we age, we naturally lose facial volume. Over time, this volume loss can cause sagging, making us look tired and washed out. Dermal fillers are injectable products designed to enhance and rejuvenate the face, giving a natural-looking result. From enhancing and returning volume to your lips and cheeks, dermal fillers can fill lines and wrinkles and rejuvenate your look.

Our experienced and highly trained doctors and nurses create a personalised plan to meet your unique needs and goals. Dermal fillers can give you a younger, happier appearance.

The dermal fillers procedure

At the beginning of your treatment, a topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic can be given to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. You may feel some discomfort at the injection site, but the needles we use are quite thin, and the sensation should only last for a few seconds.

Treatment with dermal fillers involves the injection of filler with hyaluronic acid to add volume, definition and enhance areas of the face. Once the dermal filler is injected, the filler may be gently moulded into place to create the desired shape. The specifics of the procedure, such as the amount of dermal filler that will be used, will depend on the amount of volume needed in the target area.

Dermal fillers can be centred around improving facial contouring, creating a youthful look, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enhancing specific facial features, and improving the appearance of the skin.

The total treatment time depends on the area being treated and the amount of filler being used. Anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes can be expected, but the time can be estimated during your consultation.

Benefits at a glance

Dermal fillers can provide effective and relatively pain-free treatment, creating long-lasting results.

With a personalised treatment tailored to address your specific aesthetic concerns, dermal fillers can:

  • Improve facial contouring
  • Enhance natural features
  • Restore lost volume
  • Restore youthful proportions
  • Add volume and redefine
  • Achieve smooth and refined skin
  • Soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

A guide to your treatment results

You can see the results of your treatment with dermal fillers immediately. However, any initial swelling will need to subside before the best results can be seen. This is typically about three days after the treatment but can vary from client to client.

While making any adjustments needed to follow your aftercare instructions, you will be able to resume your daily routine as usual after the treatment. Since swelling can last a few days and you will need to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours, it is a good idea to schedule your treatment with fillers well before any important events.

Your results can be long-lasting and visible for up to six to twelve months. Naturally, the dermal filler will be metabolised by the body over time, which means that results are not permanent and can last for varying lengths of time per client.

To maintain your results in the longer term, you will need additional treatments with dermal fillers.

“We take a holistic approach to administering dermal fillers to our clients. Overfilled lips and bulky frozen cheeks are not a good advertisement for cosmetic aesthetic treatment! We subscribe to achieving a refreshed look for you that has your friends saying, “Wow, you look so rested, refreshed and happy! What is your secret?”

Preparing for dermal fillers

Once your lifestyle and health factors have been discussed during your consultation, you may be given instructions to follow to prepare for your treatment. This may include stopping certain medications that can hinder the healing process after treatment or avoiding any usual activities that may be part of your typical routine.

Before getting treatment with fillers, you should avoid hair removal treatments for at least two days and avoid alcohol for 24 hours. You may also like to avoid salty foods and be sure to stay hydrated for a few days before the procedure. Lifestyle habits such as smoking and health factors such as taking blood-thinning medications may need to be managed before treatment

Aftercare for dermal fillers

Caring for the treated area and taking steps to keep your general health in check will be your priority after receiving treatment with cosmetic injectables.

Immediately after treatment, you may experience some slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a typical result of the injection and generally disappears in a few days. If symptoms persist or other reactions occur, please get in touch with your physician.

After dermal fillers, you should avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat exposure for 24 hours. You should also avoid applying excessive pressure on the treated areas for the first few nights. To avoid putting too much pressure on the treated areas with face fillers, you may wish to try and sleep on your back, if possible. Although you will need to avoid applying pressure to the treated area, you may very gently apply a cold compress to help to reduce swelling or discomfort.

You should avoid wearing makeup after face fillers for about 24 hours and applying any strong skin products such as vitamin C and retinol.

To promote sufficient healing, you must avoid undergoing additional skin treatments in the treated area, such as waxing, peels or facials, laser and microdermabrasion. Lasers particularly should be avoided for at least six weeks. You may discuss time between other procedures with your cosmetic practitioner.

Risks and potential side effects of dermal fillers

The most common side effects of cosmetic injectables are transient bruising, swelling and tenderness. These side effects can generally be managed with your provided aftercare steps and should subside within the first few days after treatment. However, bruising may last two to three weeks.

A thorough consultation before treatment will ensure you are aware of any additional risks and side effects. However, the general complications of dermal fillers include persistent swelling, redness, bleeding (from the injection site), muscle weakness, infection, allergic reaction, asymmetrical or lumpy results, and scarring. You will be given the opportunity to discuss the consent process and have any questions answered before making an informed consent to any treatment for your safety.

Our passionate and experienced team of injectors will always do their best to minimise your chances of experiencing complications after treatment. To help to minimise your risks of treatment with cosmetic injectables, be sure to adhere to your preparation and aftercare instructions. Quitting smoking and avoiding taking any blood-thinning medications are essential before and after steps to promote sufficient healing, reducing the chance of most of the above side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to see results after the treatment?

Results can be observed immediately. However, the best results are seen once any swelling abates.

Will I be able to continue my usual daily routine during the treatment downtime?

Usually, you will be able to go about your usual routine. It is always good to schedule your appointment away from any important social events in the instance you experience any bruising or swelling.

Will I need multiple treatments to achieve my desired results?

Your ideal results may be achieved with one single treatment. However, since the ingredients of the dermal fillers are naturally metabolised by the body over time, the results are not permanent. Therefore, you may need top-up treatments to maintain your results in the long term.

How much dermal filler will I need?

It’s hard to know how much filler you will need without a consultation. The amount of filler will also influence your treatment pricing, so booking a consultation is your next best step to having your personal questions answered and a personalised treatment plan mapped out. Your consultation is obligation free.

Am I a suitable candidate for face fillers or dermal lip fillers?

Every client’s suitability for treatment will be closely considered during a consultation, discussing lifestyle habits, health history, desired results, and other important individual factors.

Generally, ideal candidates for cosmetic injectables should not have contraindications such as infections, inflamed skin in the desired treatment area, or a history of keloid scarring. Suitable candidates should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding the treatment’s results. Clients should also be willing to follow preparation and aftercare instructions to support sufficient healing and the chance of achieving the most effective results.
