Product Free Skin Care Tips

Is your skin in need of a little boost? We wanted to share some of our favourite product free ways to give your skin some love from the comfort of your home (if you want to take it up a step, be sure to check out our fave Dr Gina’s At Home Facial!). These tips are for you if you’re wanting an easy transformation that will leave your skin looking youthful and hydrated!

Stay hydrated

Skin cells are like any other cell in your body, they need water to function properly. Lack of hydration can leave your skin dry, tight and flaky. Plus, dehydrated skin is less resilient to environmental factors meaning it can increase early signs of ageing! Try drinking three litres a day, or working your way up to that if that feels really far away at the moment. Add some lemon or mint to help give it a yummy flavour.

Sleep well

Sleeping your way to better skin sounds pretty good to us! Getting the recommended seven to nine hours sleep at night is the best way to restore and revitalise your skin. Your body is still busy working whilst you’re asleep. It delivers fluid to organs and tissues that need replenishing, while also removing excess fluid in other areas. This is why people who don’t get a full night’s sleep often have bags under their eyes, they’re little pockets of skin filled with excess fluid! Your goal should be go to sleep and wake up at the same time every night ensuring you get a full night’s rest.

Sleep on a silk pillowcase

You might have seen silk pillowcases on social media and wondered how they actually work? Well, here is what we can tell you, sleeping on a cotton pillowcase can cause friction between your skin and the pillowcase, leaving you with those funny looking sleep creases in the morning. Over time these can actually turn into set wrinkles! However, on a silk pillowcase your face can easily glide over the fabric friction free, meaning no sleep creases.

Relax your mind and body

Breakouts and stress often go hand in hand. Feeling stressed, anxious and overwhelmed can cause your body to release chemicals that make you more susceptible to skin-related issues. So how to stop it? This one isn’t so simple. Being aware of what causes you stress is a good place to start. From there, remove yourself from those situations if it’s possible, or come up with techniques to help you relax. For this one you might need to speak to a mental health professional that can work with you to take back control.

Healthier, hydrated and fresher skin has never been more accessible. Working these tips into your everyday life is a great way to give your skin that edge. If you have any questions about home skin care then book in for a FREE virtual skin consult, and one of our dermal therapist will be able to help you transform your skin at home!
