Micro Skin Needling Perth

To address common skin concerns and rejuvenate the skin, Ocean Cosmetics in Perth performs effective microneedling treatments.

Micro Skin Needling is a non-surgical cosmetic solution that stimulates collagen production, softens the appearance of scars and improves the texture of your skin. Also known as collagen induction therapy, skin needling works from the inside out, helping to break down old scar tissue and stimulate skin cell production to regenerate and refresh the appearance of your skin.

Before the Micro Skin Needling treatment

When you meet with one of our team members for your consultation, you will be given guidance on what to keep in mind before your microneedling treatment.

You should avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds for one week before your treatment. In the 48 hours before your microneedling treatment, you should avoid using strong skin products on the treatment area, such as retinol, exfoliating products and topical antibiotics.

Further instructions may be given to consider any personal health or lifestyle factors. Following preparation instructions will be essential to achieve the best results and to lower the chance of experiencing side effects after treatment.

Skin needling benefits at a glance

As a minimally invasive solution to common skin concerns, skin-needling treatments are associated with many benefits. Microneedling can:

  • Reduce scarring
  • Even out skin tone
  • Smooth and refine the skin
  • Reduce pore size
  • Soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Allow for increased absorption of nourishing products
  • Rejuvenate the skin and create a youthful, healthy glow
  • Provide an effective and relatively pain-free treatment
  • Require little to no downtime

The procedure: What to expect

About Micro Skin Needling

The Micro Skin Needling system uses sterile motorised microneedles to penetrate the skin and stimulate the repair mechanism at a cellular level. Effective for almost all skin types and colours, we recommend skin needling as a less invasive and faster healing alternative to laser therapies.

The microneedling procedure

At the beginning of your micro skin needling appointment, your skin in the treatment area will be thoroughly cleansed.

Skin needling involves multiple needles penetrating the skin, creating multiple channels. These channels can carry more than 80% more topical nutrients and can encourage the delivery of these nutrients deeper into the skin. The channels feed cells in the dermis and basal layer of the epidermis.

The steps of your microneedling treatment can be adjusted to suit every client’s needs and achieve the desired results. Your treatment can focus on treating uneven skin tone, targeting fine lines and wrinkles, softening scars, or reducing the appearance of pigmentation in specific areas.

Number of treatment sessions

You may see results after just one treatment, but multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve the best results. Some clients may undergo about four to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. After microneedling, your skin will gradually improve over the next six to 12 months.

“The skin needling treatment creates micro-injuries in the skin, which trigger keratinocytes and fibroblasts to induce collagen production and new tissue formation. As a result, the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis is improved – which gives the effect of a more balanced even-skin texture and reduction in wrinkles. Skin needling also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation and is successful in reducing the visibility of disfiguring scars and acne scars.”

Skin needling aftercare

Thanks to the minimally invasive nature of microneedling, the downtime for the procedure is relatively minimal. However, every client must follow some aftercare steps to support the skin’s natural healing process and create the best results.

You must avoid wearing makeup for about two days to keep the skin clean. You will also be instructed to avoid excessive heat exposure and strenuous exercise for three to four days. A cool compress can be applied if discomfort is experienced. However, wrap the cool compress in a tea towel or cloth and do not place ice directly on the skin.

Your skin care products should be non-irritating and non-clogging for three to five days after treatment. You should also avoid using strong products such as retinol and exfoliants for about 24 hours. A sun protection factor (SPF) of 50+ must be used daily to protect the skin.

If you have questions about what to avoid after microneedling, please do not hesitate to ask during your consultation.

Potential risks and complications

Skin needling side effects can be minimised by following preparation and aftercare instructions. Some side effects of microneedling are expected as they are part of the standard treatment process, while others are complications and should be avoided.

Typical side effects include minor redness or a sunburn look, irritation and heat sensitivity, a grazed appearance and flaking. These side effects should subside shortly after treatment as the skin begins to heal. Redness can generally last for about 12 to 48 hours.

Complications of microneedling can occur if the treatment is performed incorrectly or if particular preparation and aftercare instructions are not followed. These can include changes in skin pigmentation, infection, and scarring.

To learn more about the potential side effects of microneedling and how to minimise them, you will be able to discuss any concerns during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will my skin look and feel after skin needling?

After skin needling, the skin will have a sunburn look and feel with moderate erythema, heat sensitivity and a grazed appearance. This is normal and will subside as the treated area settles and heals.

Does microneedling hurt?

The needles used during the treatment will be small and thin, creating a quick prickling sensation. Generally, the treatment should be tolerable and relatively pain-free. If you are concerned about discomfort during treatment, please do not hesitate to discuss this with one of your team members during your consultation.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. However, more significant effects will become visible if you need multiple treatments to achieve your desired outcome. We recommend four to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Your skin will continue to improve over the next six to 12 months after the course of treatments.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is relatively minimal. You may experience typical side effects, such as redness, for 12 to 48 hours after the treatment. However, clients can typically resume their regular daily routine immediately after the treatment.
