Getting the Glow Down on Mesotherapy

You may have seen the term mesotherapy floating around lately. So what’s the buzz all about? Ocean Cosmetic co-founder and cosmetic doctor, Dr. Gina, looks at the background, the treatment and how Ocean Cosmetics are leading the meso movement here on the west coast.

Despite being cosmetic physician for over 10 years, I decided last year to attend and obtain the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM) diploma.

Studying under cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marcelo Suarez and specialist dermatologist Dr Pegah Ceric-Dehdari was an incredible opportunity. Their knowledge of aesthetic medicine and skin rejuvenation is phenomenal. A large part of my diploma was dedicated to the study of mesotherapy and it was during this time that my interest in this treatment really peaked.

Mesotherapy isn’t a new concept, in fact it’s been around for decades, It was discovered in France by Dr. Michel Pistor in the 50’s, and it can be said that the technique has actually been around for much longer than that.

Meso, meaning middle, refers to the delivery method of the treatment. Mesotherapy uses micro needling to create little puncture channels into the middle layer of skin, in order for the serum to absorb more thoroughly into the skin.

Mesotherapy can be used to treat a number of pains and conditions, however here at Ocean Cosmetics, our mesotherapy treatments are suited for facial rejuvenation and hair loss, rather than body sculpting (we have Cristal Fat Freezing for that, check it out here) and pain management. Mesotherapy is a quick, relatively pain-free treatment with little to no downtime, and can be used as part of an existing skin care plan or a standalone treatment for an instant glow.

It’s important to note that a consult prior to your first treatment is crucial. As with any cosmetic treatment, we never overpromise on results.

So, why bring mesotherapy to Ocean Cosmetics?

I’ve also had a passion and interest in going beyond the norm. Continual growth and development as a cosmetic physician ensure that I can offer my clients the highest level of care and bring new and exciting treatments to the clinic – like our new meso range.

We create a customised cocktail of active ingredients to target individual skin concerns. Whether our client is looking to tighten and brighten, address pigmentation, redness, dryness or reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – our meso cocktails will be carefully mixed to suit.

There are three ways our meso treatments can be delivered:

  • Micro needling is already one of our most popular treatments at the clinic, and is our most common delivery method for our mesotherapy treatments. We use a more superficial approach to deliver the meso cocktail. The depth can range from .5mm upwards to deliver the different vitamins, antioxidants and acids directly into the skin for ultimate absorption. This treatment is typically performed with one of our highly experienced therapists.
  • We also use the meso gun which vary in depth for the scalp and neck for our MesoHair treatment.
  • Our meso stick allows us to deliver the meso solution more effectively into the skin.

Some mild redness may occur immediately after treatment, but it will subside to reveal a gorgeous glow that will last for weeks following the treatment. We recommend a series of treatments determined by your specific skincare needs.

The Ocean Cosmetics Meso Range:

Glo treatments

MesoGlow – customised cocktail to target individual concerns such as dryness, dehydration, dull tone, anti-ageing. This is our base level treatment and this is done using microneedling .

MesoGlow Stick – customised cocktail delivered with our special meso stick.

MesoLift – customised cocktail plus skin booster delivered by our meso stick combined with our Radio Frequency Skin Tightening treatment.

MesoHair-  customised active ingredient solution to stimulate hair growth.

GloPLUS treatments

Ultimate MesoGlow B Stick – customised cocktail combined with Muscle Relaxers type D and skin booster Dermal  Fillers to smooth skin and refine pore size.

After accessing your individual skin concerns, a carefully crafted cocktail of ingredients will be mixed. Some of our most commonly used ingredients are:

Vitamin A regulates epithelial growth and keratinization

Vitamin E and C acts as anti-oxidants which neutralises free radicals – the unstable molecules that age the skin as a result of pollution, smoking and sun exposure.

Vitamin C also stimulates collagen synthesis and inhibits melanin synthesis. It is great to prevent and treat uneven complexion and photoaging.

Hyaluronic acid a powerful moisture binding ingredient to increase tissue hydration, lubrication and skin smoothness.

Dexapanthenol reduces transepidermal water loss (TWL), maintains skin softness and elasticity, promotes cell repair and has anti-inflammatory effect.

DMAE is a firming solution that helps to tighten and improve the appearance of sagging, flaccid skin. Its firming action works by protecting the elastin and collagen cross-links.

PRP or platelet rich plasma uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth.

Organic Silica hydrates, renews and regenerates cells. It stimulates and regulates fibroblast proliferation, enhances collagen synthesis and promotes the regeneration of elastic fibres, we use it for our MesoGlow. It restores strength, flexibility and elasticity to the collagen and elastin of connective tissues.

Gutathione is both anti-oxidant and detoxifying agent we use it mainly in our melasma patients because of its ability to inhibit melanin synthesis

Tranexamic Acid Topical TA can be used as a potentially new, effective, and safe therapeutic modality for the treatment of melasma.
